Hunter’s Find!

By June · Comments (1)
Friday, February 3rd, 2012

Wow… I just found a draft here for my book trailer. I guess I didn’t post it. Well… today is release day!!!! So… if you aren’t on facebook – now you are “in the know” and get both at the same time.

Hunter's Find Cover
Cover Artist: Kelly Shorten

Here is the book trailer for Hunter’s Find. (More of my son’s amazing work!)

It is another one I have with Musa Publishing.  This one is under their Melpomene – Mystery/Suspense line. No worries. It may be a FBI/mob/Sheriff page-turning thriller, but knowing me, of course there is still a romantic element ;)

Logline: Helping your prisoner is one thing. Falling in love with her is another altogether.

Blurb: Hunt is a small town Sheriff who finds himself in for more than he bargained for when he discovers Mandy beaten and unconscious. After repeated attempts of escaping him, he finds himself now her captive instead. Mandy convinces him she’s after her husband who has kidnapped their daughter and will stop at nothing to find her.
Although his instincts tell him differently, Hunt becomes involved with her and agrees to help. What he doesn’t know is there is no child. Mandy is hiding her involvement with the FBI and the mob, and after revenge.  Hunt is in over his head tracking her husband to the isolated cabin and the backlash it causes a year later.

Excerpt: Mandy kissed his neck gently a few times before settling her head on his shoulder. “Not bad for a gimp.”

He smiled and stroked her back. “Wait until I’m all healed up, doll.”

She sat up enough so she could look into his eyes. “You think we won’t kill each other before the opportunity presents itself again?”

“The opportunity is always there. We just have to learn to seize the moment.”
She playfully slapped his arm again. “I’m serious, Hunt. You hate me. What’s with the sex all of a sudden?”

“I don’t hate you. You just have a knack for pissing me off.”

“And the difference?”

“One on one, when you’re not trying to run away from me or deck me or my men, you’re a very fascinating woman, Amanda.”

“And when I’m not?”

“You are an absolute spitfire in bed.”

“I’m serious, Hunt.”

“So am I.” She glared at him. “Okay. Honest time? You’ve intrigued the shit out of me since the moment I found you. Sure, you drive me nuts, but this whole ‘mystery lady’ thing is kind of a turn on.”

“You’re such a straight arrow, Hunt. Besides the whole throw away gun thing. This isn’t going to work.”

“Why? Because you’re involved in something that will probably lead me to hauling your ass away in jail?”

“Would you?”

Hunt sat them up but held her in place, wrapping his arms low on her back. “I can’t help you when you don’t tell me what this is.”

Hunter’s Find 2 – Amanda’s Return will be released…. after we make y’all suffer for a while. ;)

Last day of voting & my winner!

By June · Comments (0)
Tuesday, January 24th, 2012

Today is the last day to vote.

I’ll say this one last time since I’m already practicing my “It was an honor just to be nominated” speech.

Although the feedback I’m getting is great, Double Mocha, Heavy on Your Phone Number is too new to be plastered with too many votes.

So… if you have read it & want to give it a vote to fluff my ego anyway, here’s the linky.

There have been so many blogs & rants lately about people padding numbers. Writing reviews from anonymous accounts for themselves and having people “like” and vote for stuff they haven’t even read, so I’m really trying to be low-key about things. I ask for only honest votes. I’d rather that than win under false pretenses. The exposure is awesome & it’s nice to know the book should be enjoyed by anyone that picks it up! I may write, but I’m an avid reader, too. I get turned off by too much in your face “buy my book” like the next guy.

On that note – if you’ve read & loved Dustin Time & are on Goodreads, you can give me a vote here as well if the spirit moves you. Hey, I said TRY!! ;)

Oh – & the winner of Quiddler and an e-book of Double Mocha is Rhea Rhodan!! Congrats! I’ll contact you for your winnings!!

Such a dork.

No, not you. Me.

Does anyone else take the characters their child likes and make them their obsession?

For years, my daughter’s birthday parties sent me to the poor house. I always took everything to the extreme. I did a Blues Clues party before you could even find a single item in the store. It would take forever to list the items & activities from the Felt Friends to Mr. Salt & Mrs. Pepper. (Not to mention the phone calls the next day about everyone pooping blue from all the food coloring in everything.) It was years after she was over it that I still had a stuffed Blue & Magenta on my bed. I reluctantly gave them to my niece when she became interested in the show several years later.

One year I couldn’t decide whether it should be Finding Nemo or Barbie Rapunzel so I did both. From every single Rapunzel item Mattel put out to every stuffed friend from Dori to  Squirt to the McDonald’s collection of plastic Nemo toys zip-tied to a refrigerator box for a fishing game, I had it all. Of course because I’m a writer & I needed closure, there was an empty plastic bag there to reassure you that in the end, the fish indeed did escape the bags. (What did I say in the title?)

The obsession continued to the Wizard of Oz where OMG – I got the “lunatic party thrower of the year award” for. Guests followed a yellow brick road, threw apples at a scarecrow, drank melted witch punch, pinning the heart on the Tin Man won you hand lotion (oil, duh) and a of course – a ruby slipper cake. I could go on but, yanno… I now have a curio cabinet for Wizard of Oz items. It still grows slowly to this day.

My “Who wants to be a Pokemon master” party just about had the men in white coats showing up at my door. I officially knew more about Pokemon than any person should. I had seen enough shows to even have my favorite. Psyduck.

Psyduck

Just when I thought I grew out of it – it comes back to haunt me. I discovered a post by a friend on facebook about looking for Pokemon stuff for her son. The show may still have a following, but you can’t find things like you used to. For the most part my daughter has grown out of it. She had given a lot of things away but I knew there were enough odds & ends to make a little boy happy. As I said good bye to everything and taped up the box, I remembered the key chain above. I went out and found it in my glove box. I feel like a horrible person. I had to stare at it for a long time, deciding whether or not I could part with it. “Suck it up. It’s been in a glove box for 5 years. Let a little boy enjoy it.” *sniff*

I cut the box back open and added my beloved Psyduck to the odds & ends.

*hurries to the post office before she can change her mind*

Hold me.

Happy New Year!

By June · Comments (23)
Sunday, January 1st, 2012

2011 ended with a bang & I have just a few things to share to get 2012 kicked off.

Saturday, I received notification that Double Mocha, Heavy on Your Phone Number was nominated over at Love Romance Cafe for Best Mystery/Romantic Suspense/Thriller Book.

I can never get .gifs to work here, but this is what they gave me to display around.

I’ll post voting links and such when they are available in case you’ve read it & would like to vote. I’m thrilled to be a part of what looks like such a great list. It’ll be fun adding to my TBR pile!

To celebrate – I’m going to give away a game that I have my characters play in the book. Quiddler.
Quiddler

I’ve mentioned the game in a post before. Kids really kick our butts at this. And for one of the best laughs, my niece had this for a hand a while back.
Do it

I’ll give out a copy of the book as well. Winner name your e-poison. Not sure how long I’ll let this run as I don’t know the specifics of the contest yet. I’m given chances to post excerpts & such so will probably run this through the duration.

You don’t need to join my blog or dance a jig, you can just comment here or just post on my facebook wall.

The game is a blast! I’ve been wanting to do this ever since the book came out so whoever read it could experience the butt whopping Bix got from Ellie & Gramps.

I’d also like to share the cover for Hunter’s Find. I got this on Friday.
Hunter's Find
Kelly Shorten did a great job again!

I’m currently working on edits. It is scheduled for release on Feb, 3rd with Musa Publishing.

I am also wrapping up the final scenes to Hunter’s Find 2 – Amanda’s Return and hope to submit that very soon. Here’s to an acceptance! I didn’t plan on there being a #2. My buddy, Lola, is just a bully that way. I’ll keep you posted.

Meet Odette!

By June · Comments (4)
Friday, December 30th, 2011

Maybe I’m being a little silly posting this all over the place, but this little gal made my Christmas.

Odette

It’s Odette the possum from my middle grade series.

My daughter found her at the bookstore where I had a signing for Through the Mirror and Into Snow. That book is where Odette makes her 1st appearance. We got to the mall early. She found it & bought it, then hid the other one so I wouldn’t see it!

Two years ago when we were at a Cracker Barrel in Kentucky with friends, I saw one & didn’t buy it & have been wanting it ever since. So worth the wait & that much more special than having bought it myself! I see this a great start of buying things from my books. I already have this which I found last Christmas:

Snow Pez

Let the games begin!

Editing woes

By June · Comments (0)
Tuesday, December 27th, 2011

I beg of you. Someone please chime in with your editing woes & make me feel better!

I have always had great editors for my books. I’ve learned a lot with each one.

I’ve said before how my wonderful Stewie pointed out my: handed, grabbed, giggled, flopped, etc. You don’t realize how many times they are there until you word search for them.

Editing “Snow” brought me another round of: beautiful, “made their way”, all, just, began, yet…

I learned with Double Mocha my “gots” have “got” to go.

I edited Come & Talk to Me for these babies, did Hunter’s Find & re-sent that off and am currently working on Hunter’s Find 2 – Amanda’s Return with them. Holy hell… I just want to get back to writing! I already needed to add 5K to finish this book off but after killing off 400+ repeats on at least 2 of these – I now need to add a heck of a lot more than that. 432 “just”? Seriously, Bug?

Someone else want to share what they have found in their WIPS? I bet I’m missing something else…. *sigh*

Also have to share: “Just” bought this for myself with Christmas money from my mommy. Kinda fitting for this post! Can’t wait to have it at signings with the new earrings I got from my son & daughter-in-law to be. I didn’t take a picture yet but it’s my 2 kid’s initials. I’ll have to wear it “D” “V” so I’m not advertizing “V” “D”! Who named these kids?  ;)
